  HUMAN SOUL TUTORIAL

Haaaaa!, a loud scream echoed through the dark void. A voice muttered, “Why is it so dark?” it then asked itself, “Where am I?”, “What am I?”. “Sorry, I forgot to turn on the lights”, an echoey voice uttered from the endless dark void. Then in an instant there was a large light, the whole void turned to what seemed as an endless white sheet. The first voice then started to feel weird, it started to hear various sounds, sounds that felt so familiar but also strange at the same time. The first voice heard buddhist monks reciting the sutras, it heard the sounds of church bells on a wedding day, it heard the voices of soldiers risking their lives for their nations. There were many sounds it hear could, millions and millions of sounds

The first voice felt this process of hearing the sounds agonising and let out another loud scream in the now white void. The second voice then said in the response to the scream, “Whoa there! Why all the fuss?”. The first voice asked the second voice where it was. The second voice then said to itself, “Oooh I forgot new souls need visual aids for their journey”. Then the second voice revealed itself as an orb of light. The first voice was in terror as he saw an orb light appear from nowhere. It then asked the orb of light, “Where am I?, What am I?Why are you an orb of light? and did you call me a new soul?”

The orb of light chuckled at the first voice’s questions. It then said, “Let me introduce myself, I am a program meant to help souls into their afterlife. You can call me a…………. Bot”, then Bot continued to say, “And you my friend are dead, you died like a minute ago in earth’s time and now you are in the great void where I will now take you to your afterlife and also since you are dead and have no name, am go ahead and name you a……….Neil”

Neil was perplexed by just the introduction he got from Bot. He had many questions in his head. Like If he was alive, why can’t he remember his life? or why did he hear the many sounds moments before Bot turned on the lights? or why is Bot a freaking orb of light?

Bot out of nowhere said, “ Those are very interesting questions you have there, most are easy to answer, like am an orb of light because it is just fun being an orb of light”. Bot then added, “You are an orb of light too, like me!”. Neil was suddenly hit by the realisation that he has no physical body and he was also an orb of light like Bot. Bot continued, “The voices are just your essence getting used to the void beyond the physical world and you don’t remember your past life for the same reason”. 

Neil felt unsatisfied with Bot’s explanation but what could he do? He then asked Bot, “So am going to heaven or hell now or some other weird place?”. Bot answered, “Not really, I am going to upload you to a new human body and return you back to the physical realm. Humans call this reincarnation and have most parts of the mechanics of it correctly”

Neil then said, “So you are saying I am going to start over a new life, does that mean I had other lives like this in the past”. Bot said, “YES!”. Neil then asked, “Why can’t I remember any of them then?, I can’t even remember my most recent one”.

Bot then laughed and then told Neil, “That will be sorted in a minute”. Neil felt a strange sensation, a painful surge in his essence but a bitter sweet one too. Neil remembered all of his past lives. Memories stacked on top of memories, emotions of love, hatred, pain, fear, disgust, envy from multiple lives and multiple people but they felt somehow the same. Neil has never felt this before it felt very strange. Bot then asked, “Do you remember now?”. Neil said, “Yes”.

Bot said, “My job is to take every soul like you to their next lives even if the next life might feel like a downgrade from the other. Like your most recent life was pretty shitty. You died at 16 years of age because you choked on some goat biryani because you were laughing at a really bad Jesus meme from reddit but whatever the outcome or status you live in your next life, it is of no importance to me. I JUST TAKE YOU TO YOUR NEXT LIFE NO MATTER THE OUTCOME”.

Neil, was slightly embarrassed by the realisation that he died because of a Jesus meme but was in awe and full of questions. He asked Bot, “Why do you do this whole reincarnation operation? Is it like the egg story by Andy Weir where we reincarnate to grow to a celestial level?”

“I really don’t know buddy, the seniors won’t tell me the purpose of this whole operation. Apparently, I am just employed as the escort”, Bot said. “Oooh”, sighed Neil with a hint of sadness in his voice. Bot then said, “I have been doing this job for eternity now, so I came up with theories of my own to explain this whole operation”. Bot continued, “ My main theory about human existence and the constant reincarnation is that it is a form of torture. To be honest Neil, I love that I am the “ESCORT” being human is torture beyond compare. Just imagine being born into a world where you have no real knowledge of why you are there, You ask others about why you exist; they all give you different reasons and interpretations and arguments about existence. Neil that is scary beyond belief, living without certainty as to why you live.

Bot got more intense with the torture theory, he continued, “Then there is the whole happiness bullshit and how you can never be happy forever, humans do all they can to make themselves happy but as fast as happiness comes, it disappears in a second. Humans live in a cycle of endless dissatisfaction and it is very sad to know that you will always suffer whatever you do”.

Bot continued to speak with more emotion in his voice, Bot started to sound more and more human with every word he uttered. He continued, “The worst part is that you know your time on earth is limited and that is a very scary concept indeed. This makes people speed run their lives, people go out and make dreams and bucket lists to make sure they live the perfect lives before their time runs out. Neil for me living a life where I know I’ll die or cease to exist is agonising, it must be agonising for all humans. TO EXIST WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT ONE DAY YOU MIGHT NOT EXIST is very scary Neil. I get why some people rage quit being human".

Bot quieted down a bit and he became calmer. Neil on the other hand realised he might be in a constant loop of torture and agony, he wasn’t feeling ok. Bot started to speak again, “But there is also thrill in being human. Yes, being a sentient monkey doesn’t seem fun at all but it is a spectacular thing, to say the least. Humans do feel happiness not every time but the moments when they do feel happiness it is pure bliss and it feels like these moments won’t end for a while. Then there are the minor things most humans overlook like the embrace of a loved one or the warm summer breeze or a jump scare from the doctor strange sequel. All those are amazing sensations to feel. Even the realisation that death lurks around the corner adds more thrills to being a man. Neil I dunno why you guys exist and why you reincarnate again and again most of me really doesn't care enough but being human is a total mess. It is both a gift and a curse at the same time. So buddy I dunno what else to say.”
Neil at this point was moved by Bot’s understanding of the human condition. He didn’t know what to say. Then he asked Bot, “Why did you tell me all that?”. Bot laughed out loud and then said, “I tell every soul this, I have also told you this multiple times when you were going to get reincarnated into your multiple other lives”. Neil sighed because he did not feel special anymore, he just realised he is another soul in Bot’s shift. Bot noticed Neil’s sadness and said, “But I enjoy every minute of telling people my idiotic theories before I plunge them into their new lives full of suffering and happiness”.

Bot’s words made Neil feel kind of better again. Then the white void opened up and a vortex appeared. Bot then said, “Your time for a new journey has come Neil”. Neil knows he cannot do anything to change his fate gilded slowly through the void with Bot to the vortex. Neil then told Bot, “See you in the next life buddy”. Neil then jumped into the vortex waiting to be born in his new life. Bot then said to Neil in his descent to Earth, “Good luck being a prostitute in Victorian England” to which Neil just screamed, “Whaaaaaat!” but it was too late he was born into his new life.

EPILOGUE

It has been a while since I last wrote on this blog. I have had a creative slump but recently I watched the EGG video by Kurzgesagt and read the book THE STRANGER by Albert Camus. All these are great works that invoke thought. So much so that it inspired me to write my own story but my story is not the most original I can say. It has borrowed many aspects from the Kurzgesagt video but I hope you enjoy it still.  The story's main theme is how human existence is scary and amazing at the same time and how we should try to enjoy every second of being human.
