FILLER POST 2: WHAT IS A GOOD LIFE?
FILLER POST 2: WHAT IS A GOOD LIFE?
Salutations
dearest reader and welcome to my second filler post.
Today I am
going to write on what is a good life. In my “WHY ARE EVEN HERE?” and “THE
PARADOX OF HAPPINESS” posts, I tried to determine the purpose of our existence
and I also tried to understand the problem of happiness.
Since we
were born without our consent, most of us spend most of our lives finding a
good life. So what is a good life?
So in this
post am going to explore the following questions;
- · What is a good life anyway?
- · Can we achieve a good life?
WHAT IS A GOOD LIFE?
For this post,
I asked a group of people two days prior, “what is a good life?”. As expected,
answers were different. Answers ranged from “To fulfill a purpose and happiness”
to “Possession, fame and Health” to” Kill all enemies and to save your loved
ones”.
From those
few answers I realized that we all have a different perspective on what is a
good life. So what do other sources have to say about what is a good life?
My sources
also have different explanations for what is a good life. Some explanations
include;
“THE KIND OF LIFE THAT AN INDIVIDUAL
MAY DREAM OF LIVING”
TO
“A LIFE THAT IS SELF SATISFYING AND
FULFILLING”
TO
“A LIFE WITH HIGH STANDARDS OF LIVING”
To
summarize, a good life to many is the one where a person can provide for him/her
self’s survival and is also able to surround him/herself with things that give
him/her happiness and pleasure.
The first
part I agree with that being able to survive and continue living can be a good
thing and it does contribute to a good life but the part of pleasure is the one
which surprises me. In my “PARADOX OF HAPPINESS” post, I explained that
pleasure and happiness is impermanent and that whatever one does in his/her
life, he/she goes back to square one and returns to a state of sadness and once
a person reaches a state of sadness, he/she tries and returns to a state of
happiness and it goes over and over again until one dies.
So finding
pleasure is a dead end, a constant goose chase. So since a good life is
associated with pleasure and pleasure is impermanent does it mean there is no
such thing as a good life?
I am not
sure about the question above, but personally I believe a good life does exist
but I believe that a good life is different for everyone. I am an
existentialist and in true existentialist fashion I believe a person creates
his own purpose and so he/she defines his/her version of a good life.
For me a good
life can be acquiring vast amounts of wealth or playing sports or protecting
the weak or truly understanding the universe and etc as long that person finds
what he/she is doing is his/her purpose. As long a person believes that is what
he/she is meant to do, a good life can wildly vary from person to person. So
for me you can never measure a person’s life and state whether it is good or
not.
For more on
the subject here is a video below:
CONCLUSION
For
something almost all of us find a good life is something most do not
understand. In our modern world with social media, most believe a good life is
that where a person acquires wealth, gets a good car and has a good looking partner
but a good life cannot be measured
To conclude
just live your life the way you want it to be. You only live once after all (Not
proven yet). So go out and in short be you and do what you like.
